The Breakers Palm Beach Padel: Who Can Actually Play

Two courts, 16 in total, and one access rule worth knowing before you book

October 19, 2026·4 min read·Padel Browser

The Breakers, the oceanfront resort that has anchored Palm Beach since 1896, has padel. Two dedicated courts sit inside the resort's rebuilt racquet complex alongside tennis and pickleball, and they have been in play since the complex reopened in late 2024.

The precise count, from the resort's own racquet sports fact sheet: 16 open-air courts total — 12 tennis, two pickleball, and two designated padel. The whole 104,000-square-foot complex debuted in late 2024 after a $12 million full-scale renovation, which also brought in four CapillaryFlow hydroponic grass tennis courts billed as the first installation of their kind anywhere in the world.

Padel at The Breakers is a small program inside a very large racquet operation. The two courts are open-air, lit for evening play, and tucked into a complex whose center of gravity is still its dozen tennis courts. What makes it worth knowing about is not the scale but the access model — this is one of the few places in Florida where a hotel booking, rather than a membership, is the thing that gets you on a padel court.

Who can actually book a court

This is the part to get right before planning a trip. The racquet complex is, in the resort's own words, "exclusively available for registered hotel guests and club members." You cannot drive up and book a padel court at The Breakers the way you would at a commercial club, and it does not appear in public booking systems.

But the common shorthand — members only — undersells it, and the distinction matters: you do not need a membership. A room reservation is enough. If you are staying at the resort, the courts are part of what you have access to, on published terms:

  • Court fees: $45 per person before noon, $40 per person after noon
  • Session length: 60 minutes for singles, 90 minutes for doubles
  • Booking window: up to 24 hours in advance
  • Hours: daily, 7 AM to 9 PM, with LED lighting for evening play
  • Padel instruction: $285 for 60 minutes

Read that pricing structure carefully, because it is unusual for padel. Nearly every club tracked on Padel Browser quotes a per-court hourly rate that a group of four splits between them. The Breakers charges per person, per session. Four players in a morning doubles slot comes to $180 for 90 minutes of court time, so the headline number is not comparable to the hourly rates in our club membership and pricing guide without doing that arithmetic first.

Racquet reservations run through the pro shop on (561) 659-8977 rather than the main resort line. One more thing worth knowing: of the resort's 14 USPTA- and PTR-certified instructors, exactly one is padel-certified. The program is real, but it is two courts and one dedicated pro — not a padel club with a hotel attached.

Padel arrived as an amendment, not a plan

The Breakers is a tidy case study in how padel is actually reaching established American racquet venues. It rarely arrives as its own project. It gets added to projects already underway.

The paper trail here is public. The renovation of the tennis courts had already been approved when, in the summer of 2024, the resort went back to the Town of Palm Beach to change it. Resolution No. 073-2024 amended The Breakers' planned unit development to authorize a modification to a "previously approved renovation, expansion and reconstruction of The Breakers Tennis Courts to add two padel courts." The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended it 7-0 on 6 August 2024, and it went to the Town Council's development review meeting six days later.

That is a mid-project pivot, and it is possible because padel courts are prefabricated kits — steel frame, glass panels, turf on a slab — rather than a ground-up build. Two of them drop into an existing footprint without redesigning anything around them.

The same retrofit is showing up all over the directory: Shell Bay Racquet Club in Hallandale Beach, The Tennis & Pickleball Club at Newport Beach, Paradise Valley Country Club in Arizona, South Beach Racquet Club on Hilton Head, and three more still to open — Quail Creek Country Club in Naples, Windsor in Vero Beach, and Horseshoe Bay Resort in Texas. We have covered the wider pattern in padel at US resorts and hotels and why country clubs are adding padel; The Breakers is the Palm Beach data point.

Where to actually play padel in Palm Beach County

If you are not staying at the resort, you have not lost much — the county is one of the deepest padel markets in the country, and almost all of it is openly bookable.

West Palm Beach alone has five clubs, led by Xcel Padel West Palm with 12 indoor courts and DUS Padel with six, plus Padel Club Palm Beach, Palm Beach Padel and Mondo Padel. Fifteen minutes south in Boynton Beach, Replay Club runs ten indoor courts. Boca Raton has Padel X Boca Raton with eight indoor courts and LEGIO GP PADEL WORLD with three outdoor, with Boca Paddle by CityPickle adding six more. And 10by20 Padel Wellington is bringing seven outdoor courts to Wellington.

For the full rundown, see our guides to padel in Palm Beach County and padel in Boca Raton, or browse every club in Florida. If the membership question is what is holding you back generally, public padel courts with no membership required is the place to start.
