Montana's First Public Padel Court Is Coming to Bozeman

Montana is one of the last states in the country where a player cannot walk in, pay, and book a padel court. That is finally changing in Bozeman — though the timeline has moved, and the plan is more modest than early coverage suggested.

Here is what the club has actually confirmed, and what is still open.

Montana has no public padel court today

There is currently nowhere in Montana that a member of the public can reserve a padel court. For a state with a deep outdoor-sports culture and a six-month indoor season, that is a conspicuous gap.

The neighbors moved first. Idaho opened its first dedicated facility in Boise, and Utah and Colorado have built real scenes over the past two years, which we mapped in Padel in the Mountain West. Montana players have been driving to those states, or not playing at all.

What the club has confirmed

As of September 2026, Bozeman Classic's own website states the position plainly. Its new pickleball courts and one indoor padel court are planned to open together, with a target of June 2027. Its FAQ answers the question directly: yes, there will be padel, and it will be a single indoor court.

A 34-foot clear height is generous for the sport — well above the minimum needed for the lob-and-smash rallies that define padel, and a meaningful advantage over converted spaces with low ceilings.

What changed since January

This is worth being precise about, because older articles are still circulating. In January 2026, local coverage reported that the club had bought a lot at 350 Gallatin Park Drive and was targeting completion "next fall" — that is, fall 2026 — with eight courts total. Its booking platform's case study described an 18,000-plus square-foot flagship introducing both indoor and outdoor padel.

The club's current site no longer makes those claims. The target is now June 2027, the padel scope is stated as one indoor court, and the location line has been replaced with "we'll share confirmed location details as plans progress." Treat the address above as the last publicly reported site rather than a confirmed one. Play continues in the meantime at the club's existing indoor location on East Peach Street.

None of this is unusual for a ground-up racquet facility. It is simply a project that has been re-scoped.

What about the Yellowstone Club?

You will see Yellowstone Club in Big Sky listed as a Montana padel venue, including in at least one padel industry roundup of private clubs.

We have not been able to verify it. The club's own website does not mention padel anywhere across its public pages, and the landscape architect who led the Camphouse Ice and Racquet Project — the exact complex where the courts would sit — describes three convertible tennis courts and four pickleball courts, with no padel. Platform tennis and padel are frequently confused in club listings, and this has the shape of that mix-up.

Either way, it does not change the Bozeman story. The Yellowstone Club is a private residential community where membership is by invitation, so no court there is a court the public can book.

Why Bozeman is a credible first

Bozeman fits the profile that has carried padel across the Mountain West: fast growth, high household income, an unusually active population, and a long indoor season. It is also a pickleball town with an operator who already knows how to fill courts — and padel's easiest path into a new market is almost always an existing racquet club adding a court, not a standalone build.

The catch is scale. One court is a taste, not a scene. A single court supports four players at a time and makes league play difficult; it will prove demand rather than satisfy it. If it fills the way the club's pickleball courts did, a second court becomes the obvious next step.

What to do until then
