Padel Comes to Florida's Space Coast: Wakit Rakit Titusville

Brevard County's first padel club puts two lit courts inside a longtime private country club — and opens the doors to the public.

Florida's Space Coast has been a blank spot on the padel map. Brevard County — the strip of causeway towns between Orlando and the Atlantic, best known as the home of Kennedy Space Center — had no padel courts at all. Now it has two.

Wakit Rakit Titusville has opened inside the historic La Cita Country Club, giving Brevard County its first padel club.

The Space Coast gets its first padel courts

Florida is one of the strongest padel markets in the country, but the growth has been lopsided. Miami built out first, Orlando followed with a cluster of clubs, and Jacksonville only recently got its first dedicated club. Brevard County sat between them with nothing, despite a deep local tennis culture.

What makes the Titusville project unusual is where it landed. La Cita is a longtime country club with mature grounds and a real clubhouse, and it was members-only. The padel courts arrived alongside a decision to open the doors to everyone, turning a private golf-and-tennis club into the town's public racquet-sports hub.

Two lit padel courts sit alongside four Har-Tru clay tennis courts and two racquetball courts, with a pro shop on site and food and beverage by arrangement or BYO. The club says more padel courts are planned. The programming leans social rather than competitive-first: Intro to Padel classes, Padel & Pints, open play, Americanos, leagues, tournaments and junior programs. Andres "Tito" Moreno is the club's Director of Padel.

"Padel is a very social sport, and Wakit Rakit leans into that," said Ryan Higgins, CEO of Wakit Rakit. "Socials, beginner nights, Intro to Padel classes, leagues, and lots more mean that locals can come by themselves or in a group and be guaranteed to leave with new friends."

What it costs and how to book

Sessions are priced per person, with a member and a non-member rate for each. Intro to Padel runs $15 for members and $20 for non-members; open play and Americano sessions are $20 and $25. Courts, lessons and events can be reserved through the club's website or the Wakit app, and the club also takes bookings by phone at (321) 722-7775.

You do not need a membership to play. Memberships exist and lower the per-session price, but the club is open to the public — which is the actual news here for anyone who has driven past La Cita's gates for years. If you have never picked up a padel racket, the Intro to Padel class is the intended entry point, and our guide to the sport covers the basics before you go.

Filling the gap between Orlando and the coast

Until now, a Titusville player's nearest courts were about 30 miles west, in the Orlando cluster. Lake Padel Orlando and the USTA National Campus are both a little over half an hour away, with several more clubs a few miles further on. Heading south instead meant roughly 70 miles to Boulevard Tennis & Padel Club in Vero Beach.

That is a manageable drive once and a bad one twice a week. Two courts in town is a different proposition: it makes a standing weekly game realistic for players in Titusville, Mims, Port St. John, Cocoa and Merritt Island, none of whom previously had anything closer than Orlando. A second club in Texas

Titusville is not a one-off. Wakit Rakit also runs a club in Spring, Texas, north of Houston, which lists four lit padel courts and, by the company's own account, room to expand to 11. Wakit Rakit describes itself as a padel club operator on a mission to become the largest in the United States — which suggests Titusville is an early entry on a longer list rather than a standalone project.

For now, the Space Coast's padel scene is two courts deep. Check availability at Wakit Rakit Titusville before you drive out.
