The Growth of Padel in the Midwest: 2026 Update
From zero courts to 60+ across eight states — the heartland is all in on padel.
Padel Goes Heartland
Three years ago, you couldn't find a single padel court between Pittsburgh and Denver. Today, the Midwest is home to more than 60 courts spread across eight states, with major facilities still under construction. The region's growth has been fast, indoor-first, and largely driven by entrepreneurs with deep roots in the sport.
Here's where padel stands across the Midwest in spring 2026.
Chicago — The Midwest's Padel Capital
No Midwest city has embraced padel like Chicago. The metro area now has eight facilities with over 30 courts, making it one of the densest padel markets in the country outside of South Florida.
Union Padel Club set the tone when it opened in January 2026. The 30,000-square-foot West Loop warehouse conversion features five indoor courts with 30-foot ceilings, plus a restaurant, bar, sauna, cold plunge, and coworking space. It earned a perfect 5.0 Google rating almost immediately.
Proximo Padel followed in March, opening a 27,000-square-foot facility in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood with courts and 40-foot ceilings. Co-founded by brothers Alex and Victor Vainberg, Proximo is already planning two more locations — Goose Island and Northbrook — both expected to open by late 2026.
Cube Padel Chicago rounds out the city proper with three courts on the South Side and another perfect 5.0 rating. Even Saddle & Cycle Club, a historic private club on the North Side, has added a court.
The suburbs are just as active. Alma Padel in Glenview operates four indoor courts. Club Pickle & Padel in Highland Park has four more. And Padel Clube in Mundelein runs seven courts across indoor and outdoor play, earning a 4.9 rating. Chicago's North Shore suburbs are being called the emerging "padel riviera" of the US.
Milwaukee — Wisconsin's First Courts
PADEL MKE brought padel to Wisconsin when it opened as the state's first facility. Founded by Argentine pro Rodrigo Alvarez and partner Megan Gregoric, the club runs three indoor courts with 24-foot ceilings in the city's south side. It's become a community hub, offering coaching, equipment rentals, and league play.
The bigger story may be what's coming. Epic Padel Milwaukee is building out a 62,000-square-foot facility on Brown Deer Road as part of a $10 million national expansion. When it opens, it will be one of the largest dedicated padel venues in the Midwest.
Kansas City — Soccer Stars Bring Padel
Kansas City's padel scene has an unusual origin story. La Casa del Padel was founded by six Sporting KC soccer players who discovered the sport through their Latin American connections. The club operates two outdoor courts at Overland Park Racquet Club, and its 4.9 Google rating reflects the quality of the experience they've built.
A much larger facility is on the way. Padel KC has been approved for a 20,000-square-foot complex in downtown Overland Park with four indoor and two outdoor courts, plus restaurant space. When it opens, it will give the KC metro both indoor and outdoor options year-round.
Ohio — From Cleveland to Columbus
Ohio has quietly built one of the Midwest's more diverse padel scenes. Padel Square in Cleveland operates six indoor courts with a perfect 5.0 rating. Cleveland Premier Padel adds another court in nearby Avon Lake. And the Lindner Family Tennis Center near Cincinnati runs two outdoor courts.
Columbus is next. CLVB Padel is under construction with plans for premium courts, 28-foot ceilings, and a full social scene. NewGen Racquet Club in Lewis Center is adding five padel courts to a multi-sport complex that also includes tennis, pickleball, and badminton on 3.7 acres.
The Wider Midwest
The growth extends well beyond the headline cities:
- Detroit: Zmash Padel in Sterling Heights runs eight indoor courts — tied for the largest single facility in the region — with a 5.0 Google rating.
- Minneapolis: The Heights Racquet & Social Club in Mendota Heights offers three indoor courts, bringing padel to Minnesota for the first time.
- St. Louis: Padel + Pickle in Olivette operates six indoor courts, giving Missouri its first dedicated padel venue.
- Indianapolis: NorthPoint Padel in Westfield has two indoor courts already open. The Mouratoglou Tennis Center in Noblesville is building eight padel courts as part of a major expansion expected in late 2026. Even the Fort Wayne Country Club is adding a court.
Why the Midwest Is Primed for Padel
Several factors explain why the heartland has adopted padel so quickly.
Indoor facilities solve the weather problem. The Midwest's harsh winters would kill an outdoor-only sport, but nearly every facility in the region is fully or partially indoor. That means year-round revenue for operators and year-round play for members.
Strong Latin American communities drive awareness. Chicago and Kansas City both have large communities with direct connections to padel culture in Argentina, Mexico, and Spain. La Casa del Padel's Sporting KC connection is a perfect example — players who grew up with the sport are now building clubs.
Lower real estate costs enable bigger builds. A 62,000-square-foot padel facility is hard to pencil in Manhattan. In Milwaukee or suburban Chicago, it's achievable. The Midwest's commercial real estate market makes the large indoor spaces padel requires more financially viable.
What's Next
The pipeline suggests the Midwest's padel boom is still accelerating. Between Proximo's two new Chicago locations, Epic Padel Milwaukee's massive build, Padel KC's six-court complex, and Mouratoglou's eight courts near Indianapolis, the region could add 20+ new courts before the end of 2026.
Markets like Detroit, Minneapolis, and St. Louis each have their first facility but room for many more. And states like Iowa, Nebraska, and the Dakotas remain entirely untouched — though if the last three years are any indication, that won't last long.
