About John Newcombe Country Club

Few clubs in America can trace their tennis roots back to a Grand Slam legend. In 1968, Australian great John Newcombe bought a run-down dude ranch in the Texas Hill Country and turned it into the famous John Newcombe Tennis Ranch. Decades later, the John Newcombe Estates community grew up next door, and in 2011 its country club opened at 625 Mission Valley Road. On October 29, 2025, the club opened New Braunfels' first padel courts, making padel its third racquet sport after tennis and pickleball.

Today John Newcombe Country Club is a boutique health and racquet club designed and operated by Cliff Drysdale Tennis (a Troon company), known for a busy social calendar and certified pros.

The Courts

The club has 2 outdoor padel courts, opened in fall 2025 with a ribbon-cutting and a public exhibition by visiting pros. They sit alongside 11 lighted hard tennis courts and 8 pickleball courts, and every club membership includes padel access.

Programs & Coaching

Padel runs on a full weekly schedule of pro-led sessions:

  • Open Play Pro Organized Clinic (Tue/Thu evenings) — guided open games with real-time tips and rotating partners
  • Beat the Heat Match Play (Tue/Thu 7am) — mixed-level match play
  • Pick Up and Play Skills Clinic (Tue/Fri mornings) — shot selection, positioning, movement and use of the glass
  • Pro Play (Mon/Wed) — separate Beginner/Intermediate and Advanced sessions
  • College Night (Fridays) — pro-organized match play for young adults

For newcomers, the club offers beginner padel sessions and a complimentary first lesson, and private lessons are available with the club's padel pro.

The Experience

This is a social club at heart, with a fitness center and group classes, a resort-style pool, a Kids Club, and a verandah with an outdoor bar and cafe.

A sprawling green space with fire pits and lounge chairs is the ideal way to relax while watching tennis, pickleball, and/or padel (I know right?! there's padel, too!).

Loved my experience here. Super rustic vibes, but amazing coaching + vibes

With the amount of revenue they get from JROTC and the locals, they have more than enough money to do makeovers to the condos and cabins at this tennis club. Everything gives you 70s vibes with funeral home furniture. Do better!

We have been members of Newcombe's country club since October 2024 and I cannot fit in all the wonderful things to say about it in one google review!! The overall atmosphere is wild: simultaneously taking you away from life's demands and stressors while also providing a space to meet new people, find friends, and be yourself through healthy competition. It's an environment of joyful leisure, and you can even drop off your kids for some time to yourself. The women in the kids' care facility legit love on my kiddos, and my 4- and 2-year-olds adore going. While they're dropped off, mom and dad get in some quality exercise (and pickleball!!) time. Or, relax on the patio with a fresh cocktail. The pickleball environment has grown tremendously in 2026, with fierce competition and lots of opportunities to grow your game, such as leagues, tournaments, round robins, and shot clock showdowns: all so much fun and great credit to racquet pro, Matt Kirkham. Lots of updates outside of pickleball have been implemented in the past year, courtesy of all of the staff's hard work, but especially to Mallory Danna (you go girl!). A sprawling green space with fire pits and lounge chairs is the ideal way to relax while watching tennis, pickleball, and/or padel (I know right?! there's padel, too!). The pool is open year-round if you're from up north and can handle a January dip. For us natives, the pool finds a perfect temperature from May to October; even more perfect is the memories made as a family, teaching our kids to swim and watching their first tennis lessons. Newks is 100% worth the cost of membership.

I attended your Easter event with my Sister and Family expecting a fun, family-friendly atmosphere, especially with so many children present. While the activities themselves were enjoyable, I was very disappointed with the way some of the staff were dressed. Several employees were wearing extremely short skirts that were inappropriate for a family-oriented event, with clothing that was revealing to the point of being uncomfortable for parents and children alike. Events like this should reflect a setting where families feel comfortable, and staff presentation plays a big role in that. I believe more consideration should be given to dress code standards, especially during events geared toward kids. I hope this feedback is taken constructively so future events can better match the expectations of a family-friendly environment.
