About Germantown Cricket Club

Germantown Cricket Club is one of America's oldest sporting clubs, founded in 1854 in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Originally established for cricket, the club has evolved to offer tennis, squash, and more recently padel to its membership, while preserving the architectural and historical character that earned its clubhouse a place on the National Register of Historic Places.

Racquet Sports at Germantown

The club's racquet offerings reflect its deep tennis heritage — Germantown hosted the U.S. National Championships and the Davis Cup in the early 20th century — alongside modern additions:

  • Championship grass tennis courts
  • Har-Tru clay courts
  • Padel courts
  • Indoor and outdoor squash courts
  • Full pro shop and professional coaching

Heritage

Germantown Cricket Club's McKim, Mead & White-designed clubhouse opened in 1891, and the club's grounds include some of the finest preserved grass tennis courts in the United States. The club's history spans cricket, lawn tennis, and the evolution of American racquet sports.
