About Coral Oaks Tennis & Wellness

Coral Oaks is a private tennis and wellness club in Pinecrest, Florida that has been a South Miami institution for nearly 75 years (founded in the 1950s). Known originally as a tennis-first club — Sports Illustrated once featured founder Leo Fullwood, who built the club "a bucket of clay at a time" — Coral Oaks has expanded its racquet offerings to include a new Emerging Racket Sports facility with 4 regulation padel courts + lounge and 2 pickleball courts.

The Racket Lineup

  • 4 regulation padel courts + dedicated lounge (new "Emerging Sports" facility)
  • 2 pickleball courts (new)
  • 12 newly renovated Har-Tru tennis courts

Members access all three racquet sports under one membership.

Coaching & Programs

With 14 professional coaches on staff, Coral Oaks offers lessons, clinics, and competitive programming across every level of play. The club also hosts the annual Coral Oaks Invitational tournament and runs summer and seasonal camps.

The Clubhouse

Recently renovated, the Coral Oaks clubhouse supports a full-day member experience:

  • Fitness center
  • Pilates studio
  • Kids rooms
  • Pro shop
  • Bar
  • Locker rooms with showers
  • Newly re-designed all-day menu, plus frequent culinary experiences

Heritage

Coral Oaks traces back to the 1950s when its site was subdivided from a larger Pinecrest parcel. In the 1960s, Leo Fullwood — a former Dade County park pro known for teaching spin — built the first courts "a bucket of clay at a time," as Sports Illustrated put it. Through the 70s and 80s he expanded the club to the 12 courts that stand today. Alan Raff took ownership in the 1990s, leading the "Dumbheads" morning group (per a Miami Herald feature). A former professional tennis player led a full clubhouse renovation in the late 2010s. The club is now privately owned and focused on continuing to evolve its offerings.

Coral Oaks is part of South Miami's private-club network — alongside Brickell Tennis Club and Royal Palm Tennis Club — and serves members across Coral Gables, Pinecrest, and Coconut Grove.
