Usage of wrist in Padel

I'm curious How much do you use your wrist to achieve power on Smashes, viboras, bajadas etc?

Look up videos on Youtube of how to use pronation on tennis serves.

Will do! Honestly just no one actually talks about it in padel. So I guess going to Tennis is the only way to learn.

People do but there’s 100x more tennis content available so it will be much easier to find

I try to avoid unnecessary wrist movement, mostly to prevent injury. Most of the shots in padel require engaging larger muscles, which in turn will give you more consistency than pinponging your way around the court. Note that some shots will require some wrist movement (e.g., pronation in kick smash, downward wrist flick in viboras and volleys, certainly for tap outs), but it's never nearly as much as people think.

I think overusing it for everything is the mistake, but I find myself lacking some power when I need it. So yeah just trying to get a vibe for when I might need it more.

In which shot are you lacking power? Maybe there are other solutions that are less finicky? Remember wrist movements are very hard to reliably control, which is why it's usually the last part of the chain.

A decent amount on smashes, pretty limited on viboras and bajadas. More wrist = less control.

If you see pro games they use their wrist a lot on flat shots to gain some extra easiness to control where the ball goes. It's also super clutch for difficult balls close to the ground that you need to save. The other use of the wrist is to apply a ton of spin, smashes are flat unless it's a kicksmash. Bajada I use mostly wrist unless I'm finding an angle. Dropshots also wrist.

Generally the wrist is used as part of the follow through, as the last part, like skimming a stone. If you do it instead of a follow through trying to force spin you lose consistency and can hurt your wrist

On all of these you should use the wrist, for the flat smash you pronate, same for vibora. On the bajada you can hit flatter for a slower placement type of shot, but if you apply spin you make it harder to block.

Only on tap outs.
