What playtomic level is this competitive match?

13179 commentsu/Obvious-Rub87343w ago
Level 1.5 competitive Playtomic match at S3 Padel Sutton - what level do you think we’re playing at? Drop your thoughts below! 🎾 UPDATE: to clarify I mentioned 1.5 as the level but if you want the full breakdown of players Me (1.48 with 66 matches), my partner (1.5 with 5 matches), against X (1.8 with 10 matches) and Y (1.85 with 22 matches) Therefore I said 1.5 as what I thought was the in between score here (off the top of my head)

Not above 1 in most countries where the sport is relevant

u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Thanks mate, I appreciate you
4
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
I don’t get why you have to be passively rude? You not been taught how to play team sports?
-13
u/Chemical-Pilot-48253w ago
Why are people with obviously limited playing experience so concerned with their Playtomic ratings? Also, what’s the hope here, that someone says ‘oh no, in <obscure country where they’ve never heard of padel> that’s clearly a 3.8!’?
37
u/ppan863w ago
Helps finding appropriate games, same as for every other level.
9
u/tenpostman3w ago
my recent doubles partner is fucking obsessed with it, granted he's not a "starter" anymore. But holy shit it pisses me off hearing him say "we can take them, their rating is X and Y" or the likes
7
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
What’s wrong with saying “we can take them”😂😂
1
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
I was just curious tbh!
6
u/HairyCallahan3w ago
Maybe interested to see how it differs per country?
3
u/Neighbourly3w ago
a rating system which low rank people are utterly obsessed with is how playtomic makes money
0
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
I’ve had 66 matches im just curious where people thought I stand. Apparently that means I’m obsessed, I’m so sorry to have triggered you!
-2
u/marfes33w ago
High 0.xx. Definitely not over 1.
33
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Yeahh fair!
2
u/Jibi_Vadabadoe3w ago
0.5
26
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Fair enough!
2
u/HuevosRancheros_3w ago
That’s just not true though. 0.5 is literally the lowest rating. There are plenty of people worse than this
1
u/Sharpieface3w ago
Forget about that raiting mate. Prioritise learning technique
22
u/dompkiller3w ago
Technique is important but imo coordination and footwork comes first.
4
u/station_terrapin3w ago
Coordination and footwork is not technique?
2
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
I’m trying mate. I am switching over from badminton hence the technique is unorthodox.
1
u/jamkola3w ago
I don’t think that’s anywhere near a 1.5.
9
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Fair enough
1
u/jamkola3w ago
Sorry, that’s probably a bit harsh. At low level as long as you consistently return the ball and minimise unforced errors maybe that sort of play might be a 1.5? At least in UK. But the technique and movement isn’t good, and the points won were from pretty terrible errors.  Where are you based? Do you play completely random people or is it just the same pool all the time? Playtomic scores are often really weird, unless you’re constantly playing random people they don’t always correlate. And even then it depends massively on geography, even between clubs.
3
u/Alone-Phrase37973w ago
There’s so much basic stuff here that it’s too much to unravel. It would be 0.5 where I play. It would amaze me if you played more than 15 games.
8
u/HuevosRancheros_3w ago
It literally wouldn’t be 0.5 though. That’s the lowest score. There are plenty people who can barely hit the ball over the net let alone after it hits the back glass. The other thing to remember is that everyone looks a lot shitter on camera than they think. I guarantee if you film yourself you’d be surprised
1
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Where do you play (approximately)
0
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Can we play?
0
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
I’ve played 66 games

u/Alone-Phrase37973w ago
You could use a trainer. First thing I would work on is positioning and readiness.
6
u/Iarehealer3w ago
Which one are you in the video?
0
u/ventus00123w ago
The video shows a couple important issues that are simple to fix. People will rate you low because of these beginner mistakes. I'd say 1.0 or slightly below is appropriate. \- You're standing and waiting to see where your ball ends up (0:09). You should immediately return to a good starting spot for the next shot and position your padel racket in front of you. \- You're not using your backend for the 0:14 shot, instead running to a bad spot making your teammate cover the *entire* court. \- Turning your back to your opponents, looking at what your partner is doing (0:16). Again, get yourself ready for the next shot! \- Your racket placement is already at forehand position, even though the opponent hasn't even hit the ball yet. Fixing these things will significantly upgrade your skill level. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you so much for the specific insight. This is exactly what I wanted. You’re IT

I’m 1.5 and would happily say you wouldn’t beat me.

4
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Can we play?
1
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
That’s good I guess? Do you just think about defeat and victory lol
-2
u/Clamps555553w ago
No just looking at the way you “tap” the ball over the net and play for fun. I recognise the game and enjoyed playing it. But when you move up a bit things become a whole lot more serious and you don’t just tap the ball over the net to each other like in this clip which was most likely the best rally you all had in 90min. Keep playing better players is my advice.
1
u/six-degrees-under3w ago
I work at a padel club and coach too, just my personal opinion of course but for me easily 1.5 - and I would also say by Playtomic’s own definition based on the screenshot attached - you can clearly rally & return at (at least) low speeds. In addition, have started to understand use of the back glass in defence - not a million miles from level 2.0 https://preview.redd.it/sxlpq0qefy2h1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c35e9f19ff4a0bef7bfc309188d94beaf0efefe6
3
u/station_terrapin3w ago
Yeah, good old playtomic classification that only works on countries where padel is not really a thing. If you get yourself to the rating that the app gives you after answering the questionnaire, get ready to get smashed down like 2 points below that over your first couple of games.
5
u/Spasik_3w ago
According to this chart it's clearly a 1.0
2
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
At least a 1, I play more than a couple games per month and I can get it over the net and in on most shots..
1
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
I was trying to play at a softer pace as my partner was new to the game. I talked him through the tactics at the start of the game. He picked it up quite quickly but you can see the returns were quite weak from my partner on their serves which led to a lot of points loss. Especially when trying to build up the rallies it’s essential to start with a deep / confusing shot to open the other pair, my partner was new so was stil figuring this out. There was also times when he would want to push forward but you’re not meant to do that when defending tbh it’s too risky I had played a match right before this (back to back bookings has its downsides I guess). Our opponents were on paper stronger than us but we held our own quite well in fairness. The scores were 1-6 (to them), 6-1 (to us), and 5-5 (when the booking ran out lol). I reckon based on aggression and intensity we would’ve had them in the 2 clear sets😭
1
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Lol thank you!!!
1
u/alexanderher3w ago
I wouldn’t be annoyed if they popped up in a friendly game of mine with a rating anywhere from 0.5-1.5. Coordinated enough to be 2.0s with some coaching and positioning tips quickly. I’ve played across the UK, South Africa and Australia, stands true in all three
3
u/Acejakk3w ago
As someone said, forget the rank, focus on learning and applying said teachings to win as many matches as possible. Rank will naturally follow
2
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Thanks’! I honestly don’t care about rank I was merely curious :) wanted to learn from others insights as padel is an international sport If I win / lose go down in my rankings or go up I don’t care
1
u/Acejakk3w ago
Read what playtomic for example says about each rank range. You'll get a rough idea about what level people are.
1
u/Historical-One24073w ago
I’d say 1.2 as I’m apparently 1 and you’re better than me 🤗
2
u/Weird-Fan-36173w ago
My P1000 coach just watched your video, you’re not 1.8. Work on your positioning, racket preparation, ball height. The real level here is 0.7-0.8 at best.
2
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
I am and will continue to work on my positioning c racket preparation and ball height sir. Thanks for the advice though
1
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
What’s p1000? Well you’ll have to dispute that with the coach from my venue I guess bro x

u/GnarlyBear3w ago
Generous 2
2
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Most generous person I’ve seen on here! Thanks😂
1
u/GnarlyBear3w ago
I gave it as a gatekeeper too. Nearly all posters in this sub are new Northern EU players or UAE players - I am 13 years in and grew up in southern spain. You can all get it back over the net and win points, thats a high 1 to generous 2. I play a 1 here in Marbella I'm expecting lobs too short or long, twisting and spinning the wrong way etc
2
u/mercynuts3w ago
Id say somewhere around 1. There's some easy improvements around positioning that would make it higher
2
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Thanks mate, I’ll work on that. What’s your level like ?
1
u/Datashot3w ago
I'd say the rally goes on for longer than you'd expect from a 1.0 match, so the players are perhaps able to go above 1.0 in Spain due to some degree of sensibility/touch in their shots. The technique however is definitely that of someone who has never taken classes, definitely below 1.0 level. I'd say if you have 66 matches under your belt, from this point on you would improve more from taking 10 classes than by playing 100 matches like this one
2
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Interesting insight. I understand, thank you!

u/AltruisticArachnid233w ago

I was curious how levels differ in countries mate, thanks for clarifying btw
1
u/Vappav3w ago
Well you'll be happy to know in Nigeria you could call yourself advanced intermediate!

u/vbchedid3w ago
More than anything else - have fun! You guys need a little more coordination as a team (if you intend to play together regularly). Court and spatial awareness will make you play longer rallies and make less mistakes - without having to run around so much. Get some lessons; remember it’s social (for 95% of us - the urge to win is real but if you’re not making a living from it, chillax); and have fun!!!
2
u/pinballkid3w ago
1.0
2
u/Ok-Buddy-91943w ago
It can help to tell everyone which player you are (I guess closest to the camera). Padel is about having fun and gradual improvement. You really only want to care about your level when it’s too low or too high (because it affects the fun value for you and the other players on court). From what I see you’re all about the same level, so enjoy playing and keep working on your game 👍
2
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Thanks for the kind words and I’ll take on board what you say. It’s true, I don’t want to get fixated on my level. I was more curious what people internationally thought this level lies at As I’ve played in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Lithuania, Pakistan & England. But even then the levels vary so much (I’ve attributed it to due to players either playing down from their level and winning matches, or a different standard of play in their region, or they’ve taken that self assessment at the start and winged it from then🤣 any other reasons I’m missing?)
1
u/Ok-Buddy-91943w ago
A lot of players play with the same set of people, which doesn’t help. But differences in rating between countries is typical - Spanish players are ranked a whole level below English players - because there are so many good Spanish players! The high number of top-level players keeps the amateur’s level lower. It’s a pain if you want to play open matches in different countries. The other issue is that everyone wants their level to be higher, and Playtomic has to manage that pressure whilst still maintaining engagement with their app

Level is just way too subjective. I've been playing since 2002 and competed for many years in Chile. Arrived in the UK 2 years ago. That would be 0.5 in Chile, 1.5 in Manchester and 2.5 in Glasgow (probably 1 in London).
2
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Someone with insight ❤️
2
u/ProjectUseful74543w ago
Try to wait for the ball with the racket in front of you. Left hand holding it. Racket pointing upwards. Those miliseconds raising the racket that you lose, when the ball is coming towards you makes a huge difference. Load your shot before the ball arrives. Finally, when your rival is serving against you, wait in crouch. You are picking a ball from the ground you need to be in crouch position. Enjoy and have fun!!

u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago

Just proves padel has its fair share of people who don’t even have the community mentality which padel exudes. I posted this video for discussion and comments, not for people to be like “oh no way you’re not that level”. I’m not an insecure person so I’m not disheartened but it’s a little disappointing to hear the fellow padel community be like this to other players. Hope I never come across them on the court, it’s a shame to the game.

You really need coaching. You need the basics, how to hold the racquet, where to stand, how to execute basic shots etc.
1
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
I will get coaching soon. It’s too expensive in the my country.
1
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
First I wanted to have some fun self learning. I wanted to see where I can get without a coach. Now it’s time to bring one in and hone in my technique.
1
u/Available_Ad41353w ago
Yes, you’ll get a lot from the first few sessions of coaching tbh.

To some fellow commenters, I think you may need to visit what the playtomic levels actually state, just in case you need your memory freshening up? A level 1 is: “no technique or tactics” A level 2 is: “rally and return at low speed” A level 3 is: “plays flat, drives the ball. Makes many unforced errors” …………….. How are you saying I’m level 0.5 or 0.6 or 0.7 lol you must have your goggles on
1
u/Tall-Expert44873w ago
Playtomic rating guidelines are for the most part pretty misleading, if going by those I'm probably around a 4, in reality I'm a probably around 2.8-3. Like others have said don't worry about your rating until you've had some coaching and really got the basics under control otherwise you'll plateau at a level 1-2 forever as you'll be playing with bad habbits. Where your rating matters is when you feel you've outgrown your rating because you're technique is on point and you're no longer feeling challenged playing matches at your level, at which point you can take a leveling session to immediately have it upgraded or try to join some higher level games if there is no restriction. I spent the past 5 months coaching 3-6 times a month, played around 25 matches and probably 10 events/competitions and in the last month or so I started to out grow the low 2's I was playing with and wasn't able to really challenge myself and improve with games, I took a leveling session and was rated a 3, and have played 1 game with 3.5's and the level is so much better which should help me to improve even further.

u/PsychologicalRiver753w ago
Pretty masochist post OP.
1
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Explain how it’s masochism in your own words kind stranger?
1
u/PsychologicalRiver753w ago
Cos most of the comments here are telling how basic and beginners level your game is. Ans some of them don't even consider u a 1.5. and u didn't ask any technique or tactics tips or any specific query. Either u just wanted to know your level and get some validation or u love humiliation.

0
u/Obvious-Rub8734OP3w ago
Fairs. But 0.5-0.7 on playtomic means you struggle to get the ball over but that’s not true, unless you’re watching some different video bro
1
u/Neighbourly3w ago
everyone struggles to get the ball over vs someone who is better than them. that is not the correct metric. OP, you are basically a total beginner, but you probably played some other sport (because you follow the ball ok). It is clear you have no experience in racquet sporrts. Maybe you played a few guys who also have incorrect ratings and beat them. Maybe you paid a coach to feel good about yourself. That doesn't mean your rating is accurate. Dunning Kreuger is tough and people on the internet love to shit on someone. I suggest you just keep enjoying the game. Without coaching you'll never get out of beginner phase, so unless you're planning on doing training, it's kind of pointless to obsess about your rating.
