How to be more aggressive on the right?

013 commentsu/Acceptable_Month48254w ago

Work on more aggressive volleys. Work on your viboras so they have less rebound. Vary shot direction and speed. Follow the game situation and don't hesitate to get really close to the net if the opponent has a difficult ball, so that you can tap out the ball. This is what I'm doing, also a right side player without a powerful smash.

Differentiate between being aggresive and finishing point. The role of the right side player is to set up point strategically and to defend the offensive. So, being aggressive on the right means placement, pace and moving the opponent. Just putting the ball back is not enough if you want to play at higher level if it does not pressure your opponent via placement/strategy It doesn't mean killing every single shot with smashes and hard flats. But it also doesn't mean you can't finish the point if an opportunity comes though. It is just more rare compared to left side.

I don’t think the right side player should be passive. He doesn’t need to be the guy finishing every point, but he needs to play the whole match applying pressure with solid and consistent shots. To me, a good right side player is someone who keeps the point under control. Balls that maybe don’t win the point directly, but bother the opponents, force uncomfortable shots and help organize the point for his partner. Chingotto is a perfect example. He’s not constantly hitting winners, but he plays with so much consistency, intensity and precision that he controls the match anyway. And of course, when the ball comes to finish the point, you HAVE to go for it. Right side players can’t think their job is only defending and pushing the ball back.

Totally agree, a good lob is actually an attack shot.

You are absolutely right in saying that your job is to set up the point for your lefty and getting as many balls in as possible. Playing with a safe and consistent playstyle is what will win you games. Unless they mean aggressive realtive to your urgency to be at the net or something then I dont really understand their point. Not everyone has to play like Coello.

This only starts to go from a high level.. dutch would be knltb 4 5.. on all other levels u can make alot of points on the right. Good volleys and step forward closer. Viboras. Good ganchos. Really get more onto the net when they are under pressure

Based on what you say, you do great. Not sure about your level but sounds pretty good so in order to add a bit more agressiveness the only weapon I'd add would be kicksmashes, like straight ones that with a good topspin can go out x3. It's about practice but sounds more difficult than how it actually is, and you sounds like you take some good decisions, so when you dominate that it will add some good extra 4 winners by match hopefully. That, and what you already do but with more effect, playing more angled shots looking for the fences, maybe faster viboras and slight agressiveness increments like that to your already good drive game. That said, who has to be way more aggressive is your partner 🤷 I play both sides, lately not so much as a drive, but when I do I tend to be unnecessarily agressive which turna into more mistakes than what a drive should , and that's when my partner doesn't finishes points that makes me go for that role too but from a more uncomfortable position.

I was aggressive at a lower level. But it often results in balls that go up and are easy to counter. my Viboras certainly need to be improved to send them faster but often they allow me to keep the net. I practiced kick smash for fun. But I don't find that I have many opportunities to type it.

Think on your best shot, and that can be the one you start increasing in risk and speed of ball to be more agressive. But yeah, as long as your ball don't bounce much, with any shot, your job is sort of done.
