Question about Bandeja/Vibora

1010 commentsu/rizztopher_4w ago
Quick question about the bandeja/vibora. How should a hit feel? Should it feel like a whip? When I hit it like a whip I generally manage to generate more power but I lose the control. Also, do you use your wrist at the end of the shot? I mean like closing your wrist the same way you do when you kick smash.

Bandeja is a high volley, so do a volley, but higher.

Bandeja and vibora are diferent shots. Thats why different names. The Bandeja is a overhead shot and shoud be more flat and is a defensive shot. The vibora is a shot at shoulder height with spin and is a attacking shot. So to answer your question, in the vibora you use the wrist at the end of the shot. In the Bandeja you can also do it but its a more advance move. But it shouldnt be a whip feel in any shot, when it does it means you reached the ball to late.

For me: Bandeja is more a push with wrist locked. Racket high above ball, ending low. Vibora is throwing the racket with a loose wrist. Completely different and I generally play them on different spots on the court too.

The bandeja should have very few moving parts. It's a consistency shot. You want the large muscles to do the job so wrist action is usually minimal or none at all. Víbora requires to hit the ball at a lower angle, net clearance is usually low, so it needs sidespin to keep in play. For that, you hit the ball around 3 o'clock. The wrist now must be very loose to whip the ball on the side. Note that you're trying to envelop the ball from the side, not brush it from the top like you would on a kick smash, so the way you move the wrist is similar but in an opposite direction.

Its like throwing a javelin. U dont snap the wrist its just really loose and ends down.

I would say bandeja its a high volley focus on presicion the idea is that you get exactly what you need strong soft corner middle. Now if you have time and want to put pressure in an oponnent thats its solid in deffence yes vivora more whip motion use wrist ad effects and lose SOME presicion for the extra dificulty to the oponnents but for both the idea is to do the bandeja/vivora that you need IN THAT MOMENT. 1 thing i do a lot with my bandejas sometimes is hitting them lower its moré dificult and you add some risk but those limmit a lot the opponent returns and open up for great winner

Yes same biomechanics as throwing a ball. You can slice or side spin based on how you impact the ball. Wrist is loose.

Depends on what level you are, but if you are asking this question, then your focus should be on control. Which means that your wrist isn’t used much or at all in the shot. You can still add power, but the power comes by the acceleration of the arm flexing your pectoral muscle. Just watch closely how Chingotto and Edu Alonso their overheads, they are among the best examples.

Both should feel more like you're blocking/guiding the ball rather than hitting it or like a whip motion. There's wrist action in the vibora to generate spin, but in my experience most people way overdo it. The risk of missing increases a lot but the effectiveness not so much. As you get better the math changes a little (the right-side vibora especially becomes more offensive) but the general philosophy of using these strokes as containing shots rather than finishers is best.
