Volley tips?

Filmed myself playing with the ball machine today! Had a great time practicing the volley. Tips would be appreciated!

Shorter movement, less swing. Especially the forehand. Contact from high to low is good, but could use more snappy. Just look at how the female or even male pro players just have barely movement. If you want to learn how to do backhand volley, look at Claudia Jensen. One of the best backhand volleys. Edit: oh also, use your body more. In padel your shots should move with your body. Gives way more effect to the ball. Try to keep your wrist steady.

Yeah it looks like my forehand has a big backswing. My backhand less so, but I struggle to generate power with it. By using my body, do you mean more forward movement to generate the power?

Physiologically it's much harder to have a big backswing with your backhand as your arm is coming across your body. You generate power by stepping through the ball as you hit it, not with your arm. Turn your shoulder, prep your racket, then step through the ball as you hit and rotate your shoulders back around as you hit. Right now you look like someone who's stepping for the sake of it, as if it's just because it's what you've been told to do.

Maybe slice (a lot) less if you want more power

You should always be able to see your paddle. Forehand big backswing

So higher racket and don't take the racket too far back... Thanks!

Yep. Bend the knees for low ones vs move the racquet

I'll start by saying there's different schools of volley (pádel in general) teaching, I adhere to Pratto's methodology. Things I would correct: - You don't *always* have to make the step through when hitting the ball, it's not always necessary (if the ball comes at you at the perfect speed and placement for example) and sometimes it can be counterproductive to your shot, so read the ball and don't do it every single time just because you were told you're supposed to. - As many have said, your forehand swing is a bit too long (the up to down motion is on point though, just shorten the swing) and your backhand impact is usually too close to your body, generate a bit more space there by impacting the ball a bit further away from you. - In every single volley in the video you're impacting the ball while making a slight jump (sometimes attempting to take a step through, sometimes just because) this is a mistake. The power on horizontal shots in padel doesn't come from your legs or from your arm, it mainly comes from the rotation of your torso. If your feet are not touching the ground, there is no way to generate torque and in turn to generate strength from the rotation of your torso, this is the same reason you don't jump to hit overhead shots unless you have to (because maybe the ball is too far away to hit without jumping).

Interesting. So instead of focusing on generating forward movement, I should focus on rotating my my shoulders and hips and let the feet land however they land? I'll try this next week.

This is the best advice. Although some others are also pointing things of this, I think this complete feedback will improve your volleys the most. Stand still and use the rotation of your body more.

Try(forehand) more of a snappy movement. From a bit higher and just 'cut' the ball, don't swing.

Lots can be (and has been) said about your technique but the biggest thing for me is shot selection. You're trying to hit a volley technique meant for balls around your waist, but at shoulder level. That will never work out super well. Balls at that height and speed should be blasted off the court with a chancletazo or x4 instead. If you do want to hit them as regular volleys (which I don't think you should) then the first thing to keep in mind is direction: High slice volleys should be directed to the corners, so they touch two walls and die. They're actually a pretty hard stroke to master.

Higher racket I'd say and put the ball machine on a stronger speed next time. The balls look a bit slow which is good for practicing technique but for reaction the speed matters.

Forehand - Your swing is to big Backhand - Create more distance between you and the ball. Step in with 1 foot to generate power.

Technique looks fine, but you are not explosive and something about your coordination is off

1. Make a start jump and move yourself in that single jump to steady position from which you will hit. Aim to have no foot movement after. On video: you don't have a start jump, but you take a step if you need to, this destabilizes you. 2. After jump or together with jump immediately move as much weight as you can to a "loading" or "anchor" leg, i.e. if that's right volley, then right leg, if that's left volley then left. In the video -- weight not is mostly balanced and that's needed to generating power. 3. Hit. Do this as a single non-interrupted body movement 1. rotate your shoulders with racket to the side of the hit 1. You don't rotate shoulders and you you use your arm instead. Less power and control from that. 2. transition your body weight *along* with the opposite leg along with into the direction of where you want to hit. 1. You typically hit into other direction from where you move your body. 3. During transitioning of the weight, hit the ball with the racket. Ideally you should not do any arm movement 1. Any arm movement will cost you control, or you have control but no power.

I'm not a prifessional! - the forehand you're hitting the ball far from your body. Some videos I've watched the coach recommended practising with a ball under your arm(elbow tighter to body) for more power

You get the idea but you are looking perfect in the photo but no snappy movement no real speed or power. Be more snap and angrier when hitting. Also you dont always need the entire lenght of the pose. Dont get me wrong is great that toungot the poses will help you a ton qhen actually hitting the ball

Volley deeper, higher racket and correct foot movement, it's totally wrong on a lot of shots.
