Did anyone ever get banned / disallowed playing barefoot?

09 commentsu/HeedingtheHelix2d ago
I do sports barefoot for years and this year I started playing Padel. After my first match I tried barefoot and it works great. Google strongly advise against it. And stated it would be probably forbidden in most clubs. But mostly for irrational security reasons. But well. The rules are pretty vague: "ATTIRE Players will wear suitable sports clothing and footwear. Swim wear is not allowed. Failure to comply will result in a fault being given. If not rectified the player will be disqualified." So has anyone ever experienced being banned playing barefoot? And how would you interpret the rules? Thanks

First there is a rule, by International Padel Federation: >"Players will wear suitable sports clothing and footwear. Swim wear is not allowed. Failure to comply will result in a fault being given. If not rectified the player will be disqualified" Second, there is your own security, artificial grass is not very friendly to our feet and the kind of movements we do in padel. It's also a way to protect your feet from heavy impact and contacts (with your partner, balls, rackets etc...) Third, hygiene and health.

What part of those safety reasons is irrational?

Build your own court and you can play barefoot, but if you are going to be at a club, not cool at all

\> And how would you interpret the rules? You read and follow them. They’re very clear on this subject.

The rules are not vague and you don’t need to interpret them, just read them. If you don’t want to follow the rules, don’t go.

As horrible an idea as this is, if you want to do it just ask the club you're playing in if they mind. If they do mind, leave your sneakers on. If they don't mind, take your sneakers off. It's not rocket science. If you're playing official tournaments you'll have to wear sneakers, period. I play in padel-specific barefoot shoes which you might find an acceptable compromise: [https://www.zapatillas-minimalistas.com/pt/padel-tenis-homem-barefoot/2445-joma-viper-tenis-esportivo-barefoot-mulher.html](https://www.zapatillas-minimalistas.com/pt/padel-tenis-homem-barefoot/2445-joma-viper-tenis-esportivo-barefoot-mulher.html)
