There are two main things to explain here:
First, the Drop: Yes, it makes sense that your level drops when you lose, even against better players. But does it make sense to drop a lot when they are much higher? No, not usually. This is where the Reliability score comes in.
Second, how Playtomic works: When you first join Playtomic, you answer questions and it gives you a level based on your answers. Someone can be a beginner but answer like a pro, and Playtomic will give them a 5.0 level. This is why the app uses Reliability. Because your reliability is low (34%), Playtomic is still trying to find your "real" level. This is why you see big jumps or drops when you win or lose. As you play more games with different people (especially people with high reliability), your score of reliability will go up. When you reach high reliability (above 76%), the points you gain or lose will become very small (like 0.05 or 0.02) because the app is now sure about your level.
If you feel you deserve to be above 2.1, just keep playing with people around that level. If you are better, you will win and your score will go up along with your reliability. This system is actually very fair in the long run to stop people from having fake levels. Also, Playtomic has a feature where after a match, opponents are asked if your level was accurate. If many people vote that your level is too low for your actual skills, Playtomic will give you an option to boost your level by around 0.5. Which is fair also
Problem with Playtomic unfortunately is that once your rating is reliable they should use rolling averages. It is just plain stupid that your rating basically stops moving while you are still getting better and better. If your rating is reliable and you win against reliable players a point higher, your rating should increase 0.2, not 0.02 imo. It is how properly functioning national ratings work
True but if you think your rating should be higher, and the other players think so. Ask them to give you “higher” when playtime asks for your level. So that playtomic open you the option for you to raise your rating.
