Question about service rule 6.1

I suppose you have to read 6.1 in conjunction with 6.3: “At the beginning of service, (the server) is required not to touch the service line, the imaginary line extending from the centre line, or the reception box of their own side of the court with their feet until they have hit the ball.”

I don't think it's written down, but it's how players have been serving since forever 😄 And it fits within the rules.

Full rule states : *Art 6.* *1. : At the start of the service* ***the player serving must stand with one foot behind the service line***\*, between the imaginary prolongation of the central line of serve and the sidewall (service box) and\* ***must remain there until the ball has been served***\*.\* *3. The server* ***may not touch the service line with their feet***\*, nor the imaginary central line.\* *4. The height of the ball being served must be at or below the waist level at the moment of hitting it, and* ***the player must have at least one foot in contact with the ground***\*.\* \_\_\_ I agree with you that your interpretation is likely correct, but if I plainly read the rules, it is again very ambiguous. Point 1 "... must remain there" could refer to either the one foot, or to the server's full body. Although it makes little sense to allow standing over the line with the other foot as point 3 already explicitely prohibits feet (any foot) touching the lines. This does not however rule out you cannot float one foot over the line in a stepping motion.
