Rule 13 (**RULE 13. POINT LOST)**, M & R are the most relevant to consider here: Point is lost if: M) If the ball is hit with a racket thrown at it. R) In the event that one of the players breaks their safety cord or drops their racket, the pair will immediately lose the point in dispute. I presume here, because the rules are translated from Spanish (and are not written very clearly in English in my opinion), "dropping the racket" refers to physically losing control of the racket (e.g. racket falling on the ground after the cord slips off). My interpretation is if a player makes contact with the ball but is not in control of the racket at the point of contact (e.g. hand not on grip) then this is "throwing the racket". If a player players contact with the ball (e.g. a smash) and then the racket slips but the cord remains on the wrist, this is not a fault providing that the racket doesn't interfere with the opponents' ability to play the ball.

He was gripping it at the time of the ball contact? It is quite common to have racket slip out of your hand after a hard smash. Is there some kind of a new rule regarding this?

He lets go of the racket AFTER contact which is obviously allowed. On the other hand tapia touching 2 or 3 times the ball getting it against the metal is not allowed.

Do you have the rules at hand? I am curious whether they state you can't let the the racket go as you hit or you can't throw the racket to reach balls

This is very hard to catch live both by the umpire as he is looking at the ball primarily, or players to call for the review, as they are running for the ball… are there kind of ‘line umpires’ like in tennis? I don’t think so… so what do you if nobody notices it?

It was never allowed but no one ever gave a shit, much like half the rulebook. It happens often. Edit: my bad for misremembering the language. It actually clearly states you can’t throw the racket at the ball, but that’s it.
