We have had a padel wave in the 90s, mostly in Rio Grande do Sul state.
Then it faded almost entirely, having only a few clubs survived in a few cities, where the weather in the winter is more aggressive and the practice of many sports is not viable. Rio Grande (the state oldest city, from where the states name came from), Bagé, Santa Maria e Porto Alegre (the capital) are some of them. There are a few clubs in those cities opened since the late 80’s. But the most part have closed.
Now, over the last 2/3 years, the sport is rising again, and clubs are opening in many cities. Not sure about the North, but from São Paulo to the South many new clubs have been opened since.
That’s encouraging to hear that interest in the sport is rising again. Feels like São Paulo could be a huge padel hub considering it’s such an international city. I know the real estate isn’t cheap though.
