Ive only been playing a few months and my serving was never the best, but since changing my grip to continental I’ve struggled even more.
I watched a video recently that said to stand side on, bounce the ball at 11 oclock, and slice across the ball on serve, which i thought was working but it was pointed out to me most of the serves were above hip height. Should i change my grip for serve then back for gameplay or is that likely to cause more problems?
Any advice or recommendations for techniques would be appreciated
Practice and practice. You should always serve with the racket up to give it a slice effect. Serving is the easiest move to practice.
Don’t try hit it hard and fast. Hit with speed enough you can to the net
Unless a rule has changed I'm not aware of, your serve can be to waist height and not hip height, so your serve height might be perfectly fine. Roughly your belly button is the max height you can serve at.
Unpopular opinion- you should serve the way that feels comfortable and is consistent. The serve can be a weapon at low to intermediate levels but I think once you get to a higher intermediate level you just need to be able to place it and too much pace can actually work against you
