Cancun P2 - thoughts?

I watched a couple of round 1 men's games last night and to be honest, the extreme weather made it look like some kind of fun game you would play with your friends while messing around instead of competitive padel. Everyone was lobbing every ball really high so that the wind would cause the receiver having to adjust last second and overall it was pretty poor to watch. I know you have to adjust to conditions etc. but there has got to be a limit on how extreme they can get before you suspend play or move indoors etc. What do you guys think?

its fun to watch all the extreme curve lob even double serve fault 😂, and best player so far know how to navigate it, if the weather continue, and they continue to play, it might give us a new champion… the king of windy shot!

It sucked big time. Pro padel should be played indoor.

why when Tennis is played outdoor for most major events.

Tennis does not have overhead shots that wind would affect and does not have glasses where humidity will make the ball slip.

Nah. In normal conditions playing outdoor balances the overheads super well. Not to mention how much more pleasant and iconic outdoor tournaments like Valladolid are.

No thanks! Every competition would be the same..

I'm sure basically everyone had that thought watching it, but this is not some mega sport that can do stuff like that with a snap of fingers. Having backup venues reserved and set up would cost a lot. Sometimes you have some shit luck and have to live with consequences, we should be happy it was not the final. And to a degree I almost found it entertaining to watch, if only because it meant that players needed to figure out how to approach the wind. I don't think we saw any more upsets than we usually do, though?

it was funny at first and even somewhat interesting, but then seeing some balls almost go out x3 after lobs was a little much. play should have been stopped

Horrendous. So hard to watch, it’s really a pity so many players have to travel to play in such conditions. It should be a purely indoors sport unless weather forecast has almost no wind..

I watch all 3 sports (tennis, padel & pickleball) and they had the same shit in pickleball too this week. it just makes spectating and probably playing very frustrating.

I agree, it was pretty hard to watch. The weather had such a big impact that it didn’t really feel like proper competitive padel anymore. When conditions start to dictate the outcome that much, it takes away from the players’ skill and the quality of the game. In my opinion, that’s also a bit unfair. At this level, there should be consistent and equal conditions for everyone, so matches are decided by performance, not by who adapts better to extreme weather. There has to be a point where you either pause play or move it indoors.

I agree too.
