❔ Question ❔

Are you using AI products to become a better player?

I've been playing padel for about \~4 months now and decided to turn my training into a small research project. I want to understand how these data points influence my training and gameplay: * How well I slept the night before; * Whether I drank at least 1 liter of water before the game; * How mentally and emotionally ready I felt(that is the most interesting part for me); * My physical readiness going into the match. To collect this data, I built a simple AI agent (mostly just following YouTube tutorials, nothing fancy) that connects with my Playtomic activity. Whenever I book a court or join a game, it sends me a reminder 1.5 hours later to record a quick audio note about how the session/game went including all the data points above. I'm still in the testing phase to find a real correlation I need around 2-3 weeks of consistent data. Once I have enough, I'll share what I've found. Curious if anyone else is using AI creatively to level up their training and gameplay would love to hear what you're trying.

Not really, thought it would be cool to see a dependency.

No, I avoid using any ai that isn't necessary (like medically, for instance).  But you're just here to plug some stupid ai app, anyway lol

I’m just sharing what is interests me, thought it would be cool to see a correlation.

A correlation between what...?

To find anything with a project that scientifically vague you’d need way more data than you think. And better definitions.

Ohh, so you would say around of couple month of data? I’m playing once or twice per week.

If the rate of occurence is low, you also run into the problem that other variables start changing over time. It's a fun project, and maybe you'll get an idea of some kind, but it's hard to convert this into anything super scientific.

I used it to help me pick a racket. That's it. Most of the ai apps I see are just useless and solving an inexistent problem. Not panel related, in general. I say this as someone in charge of putting them on the market.

Thanks for sharing. It is interesting to hear how everyone is actually using AI during these overhyped AI times =)

I dont use any ai for padel but sleep pattern even 2-3 days before the match is a key component for my performance

Thanks for sharing. I would also rate sleep and mental reediness as a top factors that influence my game and training.

I don't really like ai but trying to be fair with your projeect. IMO the things you are tracking are "how I feel" things, I don't know if the insight from ai would be much better than yours. If you are able to film yourself mayube you could put it to analyze how much you move when hitting to see if you are reading balls good/bad. There are some watches tracking your padel hits, that could be interesting. You could also match that with the filming too see how accurate you are hitting while moving vs still

Thanks for sharing. I'm following same approach as sport coaches. They do measuring a lot of data from athletes. I've read about Dave Brailsford(Atomic Habits), In 2003, he became the performance director for British Cycling. So he was improving/measuring things that were not directly related to cycling. For example he did hire a surgeon to teach riders the best way to wash their hands to avoid catching a cold. So I was curios if mental and physical readiness for a game of training could influence a result.

This is just a research initiative.

i use AI a lot too, but in a very different way - not really data-driven, more feeling-driven. i mostly use chatgpt as a space to question the things i’m curious about, like how a racket should move through space or how the body should work with that movement. through that, i’m trying to better understand how my body and mind work, not just in padel but in life in general. i also think i perceive and approach life a bit differently, so this perspective really speaks to me. lately i’ve been busy with mindfulness too, and bringing that onto the court feels powerful. for me, performance is just as much about awareness as it is about technique or physical readiness. i’m curious what draws you to this perspective yourself, because i get the sense you lean a bit more toward data - though maybe i’m reading that wrong.

Yes, I used AI to help me understand my performance in a recent match. It produced graphs, broke down performance by set, and player performance against Playtomic rating. It was super interesting and made me feel better about my overall performance as the lowest rated player, and more importantly, how to improve!

Thanks for sharing! That is really cool, I didn't try that. Really interesting to hear what other people are doing. I've honestly really surprise after seen some comments in this thread.

I feel like a new subreddit should be in order (or more enforcement of the tags): /r/padelpitches, /r/padelspam, etc I'm only half joking.
