Net rules?

I recently played a match in which I smashed a ball. The ball crossed over to my side before I smashed it (didn’t hit the back glass, it was a bad lob). When I smashed I crossed over to the other side with my racket and about half my arm but didn’t touch the racket. The opponent then said it’s their point because only my racket can cross over but not any part of my body. He then said that my body can only cross over if it’s a rebound from my back glass. Could someone clarify this?

Nah, you just need to hit on your side (when the ball comes from your own court, you can hit on the opponents side), then any part of your body can cross, it was your point.

Yea, I even waited a bit to make sure it was clearly on my side before I hit the ball. The ball hadn’t bounced on my side, not sure if that’s a factor

Not a factor at all. Bouncing on your side will allow you to even hit the ball on his side, so, if it bounce on your side, you can impact the ball on your opponents side.

He is just ”man-guessing” 😆 There are no such rules :) the only rule is about ball contact. Ball contact on the other side of the net is not allowed unless the ball has bounced on your side first.

It hadn’t bounced but it very clearly crossed over to my side. I even waited a bit longer to make sure it was on my side before I hit it

Then you did nothing wrong

Anyone who calls ball contact point foul when it’s not egregious isn’t someone I’d play with ever again

He didn’t even call the fault for me contacting the ball on his side. He said that it was a fault because I reached over the net in the motion of my swing

I'd actually be less annoyed by that, it's just a misinterpretation of the rules.

Your opponent’s claim that only the racket can cross the net is incorrect. Under the International Padel Federation (FIP) rules, if the ball has already crossed into your side of the court, you can strike it and your momentum (racket and arm/body) can follow through over the net, provided you do not touch the net or the opponent's court.

As long as you did not touch the net and you struck the ball on your side of the net it is a legal shot.

There’s no issue, as long as contact was made before crossing the invisible net (the line above the net), and the net was not disturbed

Contact with ball and racket must be on your side of the net. No part of your body can touch the net. Otherwise its legal to reach over the net.

I think confusion comes from rule 13a) ”Either of the players, their rackets or anything worn or carried touches the net, net posts, the tension cable or any part of the opponent’s court while the ball is in play” If your hand reaches over the net without physically touching anything - it’s legal.
