This is a good resource. The problem I face with WhatsApp groups for organising games is some people use this and some people use their Playtomic rating, which in Spain is nothing close to this.

Yeah exactly. Different places use different systems

That's why this is not a good resource.

I mean, I believe this is an attempt to describe Playtomic ratings. Why do you say it's different? All the other descriptors are very vague besides the "Pro" stuff, so hard to say it's right or wrong. I agree that 6.5 is not pro level in Spain, but that's partially because Playtomic can be manipulated, not necessarily that it's calibrated wrong.

The algorithm completely broken and the vast majority of players in Spain are rated far below their actual level by the descriptions here

This is still country dependant. Based on this chart players from top countries (Spain, Argentina, Portugal, Italy, France, Belgium, etc.) would be identified as lower advanced. Impossible or very difficult to reach top100 in their country. And this while they are very very good. While in low level countries (eastern europe, asia, middle east, africa, UK, etc.) these "lower advanced" players from top countries would suddenly be advanced and easily top100... E.g. nr.4000 from Spain would be top100 in the UK.

So interesting to see I'm only an upper beginner at most after four years 😂

Really? How many times a week were you playing during those four years? Now I’m curious 😅

Generally once a week with multiple period where i didn't play for weeks or even months

This has nothing to do with Playtomic rating. Playtomic uses an ELO based system that only works if all levels play on Playtomic. Anyone who plays a FIP tournament doesn't care about his or hers Playtomic rating so the ceiling and natural competitiveness of the top ranks are completely lost.
3
True, ELO systems only really reflect skill if most meaningful matches happen inside the system. Once high-level players compete in FIP tournaments or outside Playtomic, the rating becomes more of a platform metric than a true measure of competitive level.

The ratings vary a lot, i feel like im a upper begginer, i've been playing a lot and my coach has said that i've improved a ton and should go to lower tier tournaments. However im getting absolutely shat on every tournament lol, barely get a game here or there Either im thinking im better than i am or i keep getting high tier players sneaking on the tournaments

I used a similar resource and thought I was a 3.0-3.5 player at playtomic and boy was I wrong. I was closer to a 1.5 player there back then, because the gap between even 1.5 and 2.0 is quite massive. On playtomic, if you don't know the basics of most shots, including the vibora, you can't really be called a 2.0 player. At least, that's how I experience it in The Netherlands.

I was thinking the same thing. This scale puts me at 3.5-4 but in comparison to other players out there, I am at around a 2.5.
1
Yea same here! So much competition at this level, it's insane.
1
Oh so the Playtomic scale is actually stricter than this one then? Is the rating based on people you play with? In my country we don’t really have Playtomic, but we have an app that's mostly self-rating, so something like this chart is actually pretty useful.
1
The rating on Playtomic really depends on the general level in a region. The players in my region are quite good for their level, so we tend to drag each other down. You have to be considerably better to make it out of a bracket, which is difficult because everyone is getting better within the same bracket. Over time, we stay the same rating but we have naturally improved, since many players here tend to take lessons. However, there's always a chance we encounter someone with a level based on the chart in your OP, then they'll get wiped. This is the most frustrating part of this (or any) rating system, because the level can vary a loooot within a bracket, especially the lower ones.

3.75 lol

Personally, I find it crazy how arbitrary these guidelines are when it comes to "you need to have reached x and y in tournament z" like whut
1
This looks like a complete AI written general guide. Several things are just weird for deciding if you’re a level 3 or 4 etc.

Found funny this I am between 2.5 and 3 on Playtomic in Portugal and saying I am beginner still . That must be maybe for country has not very big history in padel.

Read the tiny text at the bottom 😆

I think rating guidelines should be skill based, rather than experience based. We all start from different levels of previous racket sport experience, and we all adapt/learn at different rates and have different talent/potential. I know people who've been playing for a year, and have made very little tangible progress - you would look at them and assume it's their first few times playing. Concurrently, some people pick up a pala for the first time and are holding their own against people who've been playing for months (and even years).
