Advice for opening a padel center.

Dear Padel Community, I plan to open a padel, pickeball and reformer pilates center in my town. I live in eastern Europe where the popularity of padel is increasing and my town of around 200k citizens currently has none of these 3 sports. I found an amazing central location with a very good price; however I have a major problem. It does not matter how I try to fit the padel courts they do not fit. I have tried all the way talked with architects and did not figure out any solution due to the space architecture. My only option would be to make a custom padel court which my manufacturer can do of 16.75 x 8 instead of 20x10 the standard dimensions. Please bare in mind that these values are in meters. My question is, would this work or would this destroy the way the game is played? My goal is not to organise any super profesional league. I just want to know how this would affect the game for the players. Bare in mind there is no other padel club in this area so it would be a new thing. Any opinion is appreciated! Thanks!

Find a different location

Don't do it. If a padel court does not fit inside, it's not an amazing location for a padel court. It's a useless location. While you're looking, and I assume it's about an indoor location, keep in mind that people prefer courts with higher ceilings. There's a lot of lobs in padel.

This would defeat the logic of the sport

It will not work, noone actually interested in padel will want to go there. Too narrow for doubles and most lobs are smashable. You can try looking into singles courts which are narrower (but same length), but those are not overly popular either.

So you are asking if people will play padel in a court that violates the dimensions defined by the international padel federation? It's like asking to put basketball hoops lower than allowed because the ceiling of the building is lower.

Will not work

Don't do it. I would never come and play on your courts. Waste of money.

Find a different location. Even better, consider if there's some area with empy warehouse. Padel players will move, don't need the courts in the center (consider issues with parking etc). If, in the future there will are more centers, if you do all well, you will mantain the priority and it's difficult that the people will move. So, it's better a real good center (high ceiling, good changing room a bar a shop) instead of the location. 200K city it's not so big, so, I repeat, the people will move. No one will play in a smaller court. No one, trust me.

There is no other club currently. The second there is, no one in their right mind would use your court.

Open a pickleball club there instead :)

There are some 1v1 courts that are smaller and may fit, but you should build the official dimensions so you can get 4 players

No. Padel players will go to other spots with std dimensions.

do not do it and don't consider the rubbish 1v1 courts as well - nobody will play on them, apart from few hard core enthusiasts
