Rule question:

Hey! My opponent hit a smash. it went to the floor and then into our back glass, it continued to hit the fence around the door and it somehow bounced back to me which hit it over to their side. The opponent said they won the point.

The opponent is wrong, its your point , no doubt. After having hit your back glass the ball is still in play till it touches one of these - a player - the ground - the building (roof , lights etc)

Thanks 🙏

It's your point. If it didn't hit the floor after hitting the back wall, the point is still going.

Yea I thought this was the rule, live until it hits the floor twice.

or hits anything outside the court fence/glass, e.g. a light post or the wall of the building

It was valid. It can bounce on the fence after hitting the glass. The only exception is when it hits the glass and hits a lightning post above the fence.

Thanks! Would this also be our point? (Just curious if it makes any difference if the shot hits the fence on their side and bounce back to me https://preview.redd.it/x3tzg5wm5bng1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=92197382c79dcbdff8b35742df50764338c71796

Still valid. The fence doesn’t have sides technically, it’s a continuous structure.

In this case it would be their point because the ball hit their fence. There is a famous point by Bela where this happens although it's from a smash from outside.

The only way it would be their point here is if you touched the net

Your opponent cheated lol

Your point. 👌🏼

Why would they win the point?
1
One thing you haven’t made clear, did you hit it on a volley after it hit the cage, or did it bounce and then you played it?
1
Volley straight after the fence

I don’t know much about the rules, but the magic bullet theory for the JFK assassination now makes a lot more sense after seeing that diagram. “Back and to the left”
1
Taking it x4 would be then pointless. X3 would make the point anywhere around the field.
1
So you hit it after the second bounce. It's their point.

where is the second bounce from the floor?
3
1. smash 2. floor 3. back glass 4. fence 5. I hit it over their net
6
He said it bounced back to him after hitting the fence. That's why I assumed there was a second bounce, and looked like it from the diagram too.

I think once it hits your back/side glass, anything it hits is then considered out? Hitting the fence is the same as it flying out over the fence/glass. I think. Would love a confirmation too.
-21
What? No.
11
A lot of people think that way but it’s not true. The ball can hit both another glass and/or fence after hitting the ground and glass first.
3
Yea this is what the opponent thought too.
