I've been playing for about 7 months now, and i went hard the past 4 or 5 months, playing basically daily for around 2 hours.
About a month ago i got very busy with work and was unable to play for about 3 or 4 days. Right around that time i woke up in the middle of the night with very sharp very intense pain in my right foot, pain that didnt allow me to walk, let alone play... The pain was so intense i decided to check with a dr who told me i had tendonitis, gave me a shot, prescribed me some pills and some bengay and told me to rest for a week.
So i did, and almost immediatly the pain went away and i was able to go back to playing daily.
Until this past week when again work has had me sidelined for 5ish days, and this morning I just woke up again to the same kind of pain in my right foot.
So I am wondering if this is kind of a "normal" experience with tendonitis? Am I just cursed to have to play every single day to keep it away? Is this just a coincidence?
Any experiences welcome. Thanks!
I was doing climbing before. I once saw a video about tendinitis and they say you need to load and deload progressively to avoid it, and also strengthen and stretch the muscles involved regularly.
If you suddenly stop everything, deload is too fast and also get tendinitis.
I suffer from Achilles and Plantas fascitis tendonitis after playing Padel. What truly helped me is stretching before and after each game. Try stretching when you're sidelined and see if that avoids the pain!
Playing daily for two hours will eventually lead to injuries unless you are
- a freak of nature
- very lucky
- conditioned to play this much (like professional athletes)
Your body needs time to heal. You don't allow it to heal and that will lead to potentially chronic injuries. I do think it's weird you feel pain after resting tho, but I'm not an expert.
Yesh its the fact that it happens after taking a break and not during the periods when im playing the most that's weirding me out. But youre right, i should definitely slow it down. I just tend to go 100% into new things and padel was no exception, best combination of physical activity, social interaction, etc.
Your problem is probably NOT the intensity you're playing with, but the rump up time.
You go from 0 to 2h per day every day way too fast.
Play twice a week for a month, then increase so 3 days etc... And probably a good idea to take at least 1d a week as rest. And maybe take a break for a week every 2-3 months (but that probably happens naturally with vacations).
But also, do what your doctor says first.
Achilles I am assuming? I have had this issue for years. Personally I find rest makes me feel worse to some extent. I would try playing every other day and see how it goes.
