The way your body was set up you definitely didn’t mean to hit that shot there, sorry. A rulo is almost always played cross court from above your weak shoulder (a right handed player from left court would hit it or a lefty from right court). You wouldn’t ever be playing a rulo parallel (extremely small margin of error). You could hit a gancho or angle a bandeja into your parallel cage though, but I’d focus more on consistency of hitting the ball where you mean to hit it than on more technical shots like a rulo, for now.
I don’t remember what I was going for there but I’ve definitely at that same gancho before.
At 0:13. What shot should I have gone for?
The only reason I’m trying to switch up is because I want to break the habit of just getting the ball back. Right now it’s limited to hit it left or hit it right.
I want to actually think about where i’m aiming it (i.e to the fence, to the service line, etc.). Let’s not call it a rulo, just a normal volley when players are out of position like at 0:13.
