Asking as a coach - fun warm up games

010 commentsu/pwe1de7w ago
Hi everyone, I usually start training sessions with fun warm up games like: * Padel Volleyball - 2 contacts between partners before playing over the net to the opponents * the glass is lava - not letting the ball touch the back and side glass * alternating rackets - switching between one racket as a team after every shot * touch padel - small court doubles Do you guys have any other ideas? Both for 2 and for 4 players. Thanks in advance!

Just asked chat gpt. This one looks good too. Maybe playing it in the service box without lobs makes it more suitable for warming up https://preview.redd.it/c6k5ov0wimlg1.png?width=966&format=png&auto=webp&s=bddb4c7694dc85f9e95590d2175f26e21ce34f9b

Maybe ball has to land behind the service line, so everyone plays after the glass. I assume in the volleyball version you can’t smash? It would be hilarious otherwise

I mostly coach intermediate so a smash is usually not a direct point haha, that's why its allowed Also I like your first idea. Super simple but probably fun and effective

small volley until one drop the ball and receive the penalty, standing facing the glass and receiveng smashes (usuarlly covering your head with the racket for safety), so much fun

Honestly glass is lava is not the best warmup games, shouldn't players be encouraged to use the glass many times? A fun game i tried a week ago: Let the players place 3 disc cones each wherever they want in the court, then you play a normal tie break, but the catch is that if the opponents hit one of your cones the point ends and they gain five points. To make the game more chaotic, my coach used to switch sides everytime, so we couldn't be too harsh on our placements. It's a fun game, and it forces you to think about the direction of your shots, and which balls are easier and harder for you

Yes you're right. Glass is lava is not my favourite option but it can get quite funny. Nice idea with the cones. This is probably something for the end of a session and not the beginning, as you're playing with serve and everything. What do you mean with "coach used to switch sides every time"?

So, players are usually a bit too harsh with their placements (ex: placing the cones just under the net or in the corners). To compensate this, instead of prohibiting certain spots, you make them switch sides, so that they have to hit the cones they placed themselves. This forces to make smart placements that are not impossible to hit. Edit: obv you shouldn't switch sides everytime, make them also play with their placements

We played where the players directly opposite each other volleyed (both pairs at the same time), and then as soon as the ball went out of play for one pair, they shouted 'Live' and the ball that is still in play becomes a live ball and you play a point. What's nice about it is, for the first section you're 'on a team' with the person on the other side of the net, and then on the second you switch alliances, so you kind of bond with more players on the court.
