❔ Question ❔

Indoor courts - 15 degrees celsius all year

Hey, I found an amazing warehouse with nice size and height that would work well for padel courts. It already has HVAC installed, however, the temperature is a constant 15 degrees celcius all year and cannot be changed or adjusted. I read that 15 degrees is actually perfect for high intensity sports. However, I'm worried about summer when it's more than 30 degrees outside. Would the temperature difference be too extreme? Or would you see this as perfect conditions in summer? Let me know your thoughts please, highly appreciate any help.

All the people that say it's too cold are bonkers this is a great temperature. I would love to play in 15 degrees year round. My courts are currently around 4 degrees. You start wearing a sweatshirt and take it off. In the summer, this would be glorious. It might be chilly when you first walk in, but You could still start with a sweatshirt and take it off. All seasons once you got about 10 minutes of warm up, 15 degrees would be amazing.

IMO it is too cold... would be ok while playing but not nice while waiting or during breaks

I'd be cautious of the summer energy overhead. A delta of 15 degrees air temperature in summer is bonkers. Is it a solid concrete structure sheltered from the sun?

Yeah, I’d want to see a history of the energy bills before committing to this, it would probably cost a fortune.

It's two warehouses connected, sharing the HVAC. The owner needs the 15 degrees to store high quality wine in one of them. I would benefit from that in the other one, so the cost is not too bad

Actually sounds pretty ideal once you get used to it. 15°C is great for high-intensity sports - prevents overheating during matches and the courts will feel amazing in summer. Yes, you'll need a jacket between games, but that's way better than playing in sweltering heat. Energy costs depend on insulation and local rates, but many successful indoor facilities run cooler temps year-round.

Thanks for the responses so far. The warehouse was used to store high quality wine (a connected 2nd warehouse still is used for that). So the owners had a system installed that keeps the constant temperature that is perfect for the wine. It's quite a unique setup, which sounds amazing, because I don't need to worry about the energy required for the cooling / heating. But my worry still is whether it's comfortable enough for people to come and play padel.

My guess is, it will be perfect when playing but cold when outside waiting, which can be solved by wearing a jacket, at least that was my experience on a similar venue I visited last year, didn’t measure the temperature precisely but the courts are were really cold always

I thought so too and I'm exploring infrared heating panels for the social areas.

I think 15 degrees celsius sounds pretty great actually. It's definitely on the colder side, but not too cold at all.

Austria, south of Graz

30 is too hot. 15 affects how the balls bounce: the rubber stiffens and the pressure decreases.

Lol, that's WAY too cold. And electricity bill will kill ya.
