❔ Question ❔

What is the main reason for you to play Padel?

Triggered by a discussion today, I was wondering about other people's \*main\* reason to play Padel. Obviously this is hardly representative, as members of a Padel sub are more likely to take the game seriously, but it may still be interesting. And obviously for many of you there is a combination of reasons. [View Poll](https://www.reddit.com/poll/1r12b6w)

I play because it's a fun way to stay in shape and also scratch the improvement and competitiveness itch. So fun is the first priority, but it can become not fun, if we are smashing opponents 6-0, or you see partner not taking it seriously enough, not allowing for long points. Like trying risky shots and failing again and again. Or if you play with a partner that critizes your every shot. So it's a balance, a matter of finding people your level, so it's fun to play with and against.

It's all those reasons and more. But if I have to choose the most important one is having fun.

Its incredible fun but my main reason is that Ive been an athlete all my life but theres not much sports I can still compete at a high level at almost 36 years old. In Mexico I can even go to the Panamericanos and nationals.

Started playing it when I was playing tennis and enjoyed it a lot because the point ain’t over if the ball goes past you and I’m good with angles and geometry. After getting somewhat good it turned into a good cardio workout that was still fun and found a lot of friends through the game. Currently using padel as revalidation method for a brain tumor in my motor cortex. Tumor was removed and I had additional radiotherapy and currently finishing 12 months of chemo and padel turned out to be a good way to regain motor function, coordination, balance and do cardio at the same time.

I play padel because it is a fun way to get the body moving and do some light cardio. Also, I am 41 and while Ive played a lot of sports at an intermediate level for most of my life, my body just doesnt move well enough for squash or Tennis. Padel is less stressful on the body. It is also a good way to meet other expats.

It's easy to pick up and hard to master, which is perfect for my addictive personality.

All of the options are correct... plus beer

Padel is the most fun sport/activity I ever tried.

Mostly fitness, although I find it reasonably fun. I feel the same way about tennis. But if someone came to me and said, "You can have all of the fitness benefits of playing 10 hours/week of padel and tennis for the rest of your life but you can't actually play either one ever again," I'd take that deal.

Oh wow, and there's no other sport you can fully enjoy?

Nope. It's partly an opportunity cost issue. There are a lot of things I like doing. Absent the health benefits, no sport would come close to making the list.

I started playing to get fit. I liked it, so I continued playing to get better and meet people to play with. Now I play to have fun and have beers after the matches with the people I met along the way.

Wants to get fit, ends up drinking beer. That's the way :)

what a weird question. People play padel because they like padel. Everything else comes from that.

Today there was a discussion between people who advocated for **always** playing as hard as possible because getting better is all that counts, and people who advocated for sometimes taking it easy against weaker players to enable a fun match. I wanted to find out what the general public of this sub thinks.
2
heh... people who advocate for "always play hard" are having fun because they are super competitive and that is how they get to "have fun". If you want to really improve you can practice your soft shots or things you need to work on without ruining the game for others, but that is not the mind set.
