Wrist hurting due to high padel frequency

Hey everyone, After a long padel tournament (\~6 hours of play), I’ve got some pain on the back of my wrist. • No pain at rest • Mild pain when lifting or gripping heavier things I’ve got a few sessions coming up and don’t want this to turn into something long-term. Any advice on: • How much rest is enough • When it’s safe to play again • Grip/overgrip or wrist support tips Thanks in advance!

I'd see a physio to be honest and get properly assessed and a proper plan to manage it. I've been out injured for almost six months and it's been torture.

rest until you don't feel pain anymore when you play. Wrist injuries are very very nasty. Don't underestimate them.

Exercise your wrist before playing. There are several exercises you can do with the paddle itself. You can also do forearm exercises with a long stick, like a broom handle. It's helped me a lot.

What racket are you using, is it head heavy? Changing my racket fixed the issue.

My guess is you’re using an eastern forehand grip on your backhands. This would mean you’re coming into contact with the ball with your wrist bent leading to the pain. More over grips will lead to better shock absorption as well if you want to go that route. Google wrist mobility exercises and have a look at your grip.

First step to padel elbow by overuse. Ice, rest , massage, stretch, isometric holds. Ibu, Diclo, Naproxen, Curcuma could help ( dont take those before a match, because ypu will overuse the arm). If you need to play, use a light, soft racket, play social matches in a controlled way. But somedays with light cardio 15 mins ( eliptic, rowing) could be better ( blood flow through elbow). Use a soft wrist bandage without plastic splint. 1mm or 2mm neopren could help. Could be caused by backhand or smashes ( overheads with wrist).

I've been having wrist pain for 6 months now... It started about 2 months after I started playing Padel. I had no pain before so it can only be Padel related. It got so bad I could barely cut bread with a knife or hold a cup of water. Pronation/Supination was unbearable... Already went through physio with no real improvement. I only play 2 games a week. I use a powerball before playing, I use rigid tape+kinesio tape to partially imobilize the wrist while playing, I do some cool off exercises at the end of the game, ... Got an appointment yesterday with an Orthopedist and my worst fear became reality: TFCC lesion + ulnar extensor tendon subluxation. I was politely invited to start searching for another sport... Absolutely gutted, without any clue about what I'm going to do 😖 Surgery + 1 year recovery is out of the question... I love playing padel, but not THAT much... For now, I think my best option is to stop for four weeks, wear a splint and see how I feel. Hopes of getting better are way down, but I've been feeling better for the last two weeks (coincided with changing racket to a softer, lighter one - this has been the only thing I feel has has a big positive impact), so I'll try to capitalize on that... Hope you get luckier than me! All the best!

What wrist movements are you doing in your hits?? If you haven't had classes, see if a teacher can tell you what you are doing that might cause pain. Literally the phrase most heard in any pádel class I see or hear is "no muñequees"

I had this.. 4 weeks rest is good... and lots of stretches then slowly build the wrist strenght with excersises. Camcel all padel and go to hand therapist

Take a week off, see how you feel. Likely just some mild overuse that needs no particular therapy. Don’t rush back into court and turn it into something chronic.

I recommend rice bucket training for wrist and forearm recovery, it has helped me immensely during various issues with padel, elbow tendonitis and more
