Not that bad and I personally disagree that you shouldn't have gone from that smash purely on a movement/positional basis. Kicksmashes x3 can be very effectively hit while travelling backwards. Yours didn't work for two reasons:
1-Your contact point is way too far forward and to the right. The ball should be another meter to the left and behind you. This is where hitting while moving backwards really helps, you can hit extreme contact points much more easily than while standing still.

2-Your arm is way too slow. This comes from not being 100% comfortable which makes you hesitate, and like we discussed in your previous thread not having your shoulder built-up for velocity throwing.
That said, you shouldn't have gone for it because you're not good enough at these smashes and that's that. If you can't hit the correct contact point, it really doesn't matter what your legs are doing when you're that far from the net. Fix the contact point and improve your arm speed and you can get the ball out from anywhere on court no problem.
(also needs to be said we have no idea if the playing conditions were good for kicking balls out which has a massive, massive impact)
thank you very much on your insights , they are very helpful
Yes, I was really hoping to smash desperately to see how it turns out. The conditions were slow, so I’ll stick to viboras, slow bandejas, and rulos in matches. I’ll also try now to do some acceleration work for my arm.
As all the top coaches say, I’ll improve my volley first to put so much pressure on them that they can’t lob without me making a mistake on the volley.
Fuck the top coaches, work on what interests you. If that's the smash then the smash it is. The rulo is a great place to practice though since it's essentially the same ball rotated 45 degrees, and much better if played a little slow.
